Have you thought about what a nourishing relationship looks like to you?  We hear a lot in the media about the “perfect” couple, handsome and jet setting around the world.  Our heads are filled with one-sided concepts and images of what a relationship or marriage should be.  Then we judge ourselves or our partner when the fantasy is far different than reality.

Our relationships don’t have to be like anyone else’s. We get to choose!

The first step, is really knowing what is important to you.  What qualities do you value in a long-term relationship?   The truth is, any relationship will have ups & downs, pain & pleasure, joy & sadness.   So starting from that place, think about some aspects of another person that would be valuable and nourishing to you.

Do you value commitment, or are you more interested in a partner who is flirty & the life of the party?  Do you value a person who is willing to communicate, and consider your point of view when conflicts arise, or would you prefer someone who just moves on, and puts the past behind them?  Is it important to you to be on the same spiritual path, or does, to each his own, work for you?

There are no wrong answers, just questions you can answer for yourself.   So many people choose a partner based on looks alone, and many times do not even know who the person is inside.  If you are looking for a committed, long-term relationship, ask yourself the important questions, make a list if you like, of what is nourishing to you, and then open your eyes, that person may be right in front of you.

Wishing you Love, peace, and joy this Valentine’s Day.
